Cafe van den Daele is Aachen's small grand café. I had a cocoa that is served with Callebaut chocolate drops, which you then add to the hot milk yourself and refined with cream. A pleasure of Belgian confectionery and an Öcher atmosphere!

The breakfast via a voucher for 4 people was good. What doesn't work at all is how management treats us as customers. Since our reservation could not be found, we were rudely informed that we should spell our name soon. As a customer, do I have to know that the other person did not understand my name if he does not indicate it to me? The reaction of the management to the mishap of the service staff was even "nicer". The offered cleaning, because of a spilled glass of sparkling wine, which completely spilled over the pants, was commented snippily by the management that sparkling wine does not stain and you would pay a maximum of 6-8 euros, if it did. Firstly, we did not insist on cleaning, this was offered to us by the service staff, and secondly, since we have already had the damage, we do not have to assume that we are taking advantage of the offer. This way of dealing with customers is not possible!

Very unfortunate that with such nice building and decorations the service is terrible. Or maybe they are just unfriendly to foreigners? Who knows. Quite bad experience and will not visit again. (Of course this is personal experience. The architecture is totally worth visiting. Therefore the 2 stars. The owner probably should consider a better training for the staff and provide better service.)

Just great .. rustic ambience .. delicious cake

Again our reservation was messed up. We were then assigned a table. Staff is overwhelmed. Our son was tipped over a large area of ​​champagne right at the beginning, the waitress tried to make up for the faux pas in a very friendly manner and to clean it up offered. The superior, however, was very sloppy and brushed for riot. Breakfast was ok.

Great ambience in the interior, on both floors. Great offer of various rice cake variations. The stairs to the men's toilet are quite steep and narrow.

Extensive menu and great breakfast. The small tarts were also very tasty and most of them are suitable for vegetarians. The café is like a museum and a short tour is recommended. Very nice and attentive service!

One of the best cafes-pastry shops in Aachen. The cakes are all delicious, my favorite is the Reisfladen. You can order a cake and they will take it to the cafeteria.

Great coffee marvellous cakes

Very strange pastry shop. Ordered a custom made cake for a friend's birthday and paid nearly 100 EUR. The cake's first layer consisted of plastic (styrofoam). We nearly choked ourselves to death! The owner told us later that it was normal to make a hybrid "plastic" cake. Can you imagine this nonsense? AVOID!

The antique style conveys a special ambience. In summer it can get pretty warm inside. Coffee and rolls are good.

The breakfast was good, the decor is quaint. Unfortunately, the waitress, who wasn't particularly friendly, didn't ask if we'd like to order anything. And, unfortunately, it wasn't very clean there either. Other guests who were there today were of the same opinion.

Always great experience. Loads of gorgeous and delicious food. Love the breakfast but their patisserie also and plenty of choice. Friendly staff and super location. Go there every time when we are visiting Aachen.

Breakfast place for relax people with enough free time. Tasty food, good choice of breakfast menu for everyone. Cozy and peaceful Service had questions, because we were waiting around 30 minutes only drinks, which got right after food 😅 Recommended. Plus it’s cool location, 1 min from main Platz

The oldest coffee and cake house in Aachen is said to be. Not changed since 1890. Delicious cakes and a huge choice. Recommended! Walking through the coffee house is an experience in itself: a succession of small surprising corners and niches. Upon entering it seems small, but it is bigger than it seems.

Very nice old fashioned design and cosy atmosphere. However, it happened a few times already that a part of the order was forgotten. The service is not the nicest either, when the cafe is full. The cakes and coffee taste fantastic though.

The place is one if not the oldest still operation cafe in Aachen. The buidling is hundreds of years old...its a great spot in the centre...think our waitress did not have her day... it all took very very long. But dont let that be a reason not to check it out

The mokka cake was bad, the waiter did not attempt to help whatsoever. In general the cafe and cakes look nice but lacks in quality.

I have been a loyal and regular customer since years. They do have one of the largest cake selection in Aachen. Their service varies from time to time depending on the mood of the staff and which staff you run into. The price of cake, however, has gone so much up in such a short time, that after my last visit that I decided not to go any more. This is a sad story 😞

Delicious cake but terriable service. I have booked a birthday cake on Thuresday and taken on Friday. On Friday, she gave me a cake different to the picture in catalog what I booked, it had much less fruits. When I booked the cake, the difference was not mentioned by clerk at all. I argued with the clerk, the clerk said: We can change it and you pick up tomorrow. But my friend birthday is Friday！ Then she said: Ok, if you dont want the cake, you dont need to pay. She never said a "Sorry" for their fault. We had no choice and paid it. In a word, the cake is good and yummy. Booking Service is totally bad.
